NAACP Wants Campfield Censured

Nashville NAACP President Arnett H. Bodenhamer is demanding that State Rep. Stacey Campfield be censured over a controversial statement he construed as equating the Tennessee Black Caucus with the Ku Klux Klan.

A general rule in politics is that politicians and political operatives always engage in “piling on.” As soon as a politician or pundit comes under fire, virtually all of his political enemies immediately begin unloading rounds on him. Stacey Campfield may or may not have been over the top in his statement. I don’t know, but frankly it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to me.

On the other hand, the call to censure him clearly is over the top. Yet again, we see an attempt by the Left to silence voices with which they disagree. If Campfield is so wrong, then take your case to his constituents. Yet instead, we see yet another attempt to bury the opposition.

Stacey Campfield has been outspoken in Nashville, much more so that most freshman legislators. I suspect that may be part of the reason he’s been attacked so frequently. But I’d rather have a representative who stands up clearly and strongly for what he believes in than one who stays silent and always votes quietly with his party.
