Past Headliners for Nov & Dec 2001
November 28, 2001:
Since I haven't been updating this site much, I decided to do a special dedication to a John's Realm subsite known as Classic Nick Homepage. By far the most popular site I have ever created, Classic Nick Homepage has received nearly 40,000 hits over the past year. Compare that with the number of hits according to the counter on this website, and you will see which one is more popular. Soon, this site will revert back to normal, but for now I think a Classic Nick tribute is in order, since December 1 will mark it's one year anniversiary.
Classic Nick Homepage was born on December 1, 2000 as a result of a moderate obsession with old school Nickelodeon. During 2000 I began to become more nostalgic and wanted to learn more about the shows I watched during the 1980s and early 1990s. As I searched the web looking for information, I realized that there were, in fact, many Classic Nick fans out there, and I thought it might be a good idea to devote a website to my findings. Up until this time, the only site I had built was on Hometown AOL. It was entitled "John's World" and was the predecessor to this site. You can view a copy of it in the Archives by clicking here. This site was nothing special. Classic Nick Homepage was the first "real" website I opened.
When Classic Nick Homepage opened on December 1, 2000 it was nothing like what it would become. In fact in those days it wasn't even named "Classic Nick Homepage," it was named "1980s (and some early 90s) Nickelodeon!!" (honest, that was the real name!). It opened that night, and to be honest left a lot to be desired. There were no images, save for the logo. It was basically random information I knew about some of the shows, and a history which would later be expanded and used for the current history of Nickelodeon appearing on Classic Nick Homepage today. Despite it's simple nature, the page was a hit. I received several e-mails concerning it, and they were overwhelmingly positive. It very quickly became clear that this site was fast outgrowing Hometown AOL. After only nine days there, it was moved to an Angelfire hosted site, and acquired the name "Classic Nick Homepage," which of course it still retains. It was on this date (December 10) that visitor stats began being counted. Also at this time every show got it's own page, which took care of the problem of slow loading. Late in that month many images were also added, many of whom came from The NICK NOSTALGIA SITE, for which I am eternally grateful. The site continued to receive many hits and the guestbook collected many signatures.
On July 9, 2001 Classic Nick Homepage moved to the John's Realm Online domain, and as a result gained a search engine and lost the annoying pop up add. It was also given a facelift and many improvements, or so I like to think. It's popularity remained high, and I still get lots of e-mail about it. In late July it also finally got it's own mailing list. Recently RealAudio files were added of many theme songs of the old shows.
I now regularly update Classic Nick Homepage, and hope to add more Real Audio and Video content soon. Also in the works is a Classic Nick Petition, an effort to get the old shows back on the air. I'm also bouncing an idea around of doing an area like the now (apparently) defunct "Classic Nick Traders", where fans can trade tapes of the old shows. I get tons of requests for this.
For the success of Classic Nick Homepage, I am very grateful to all those who have viewed it. It also means a lot to me anytime someone e-mails me or signs the guestbook. I am very grateful to all of you, and I hope you will continue to support the site. Rest assured, your contributions do not go unnoticed.
